Mayela grew up in Monterrey, Mexico. She studied makeup & hair artistry in New York City and London, and now specializes in creating conceptual looks for both editorial and campaign shoots internationally. She sees makeup and hair as a means of expression and a chance to transform faces in unique and unexpected ways.
Mayela began her career in Mexico in 2008, where she cut her teeth working with magazines and newspapers such as El Norte, as well as fashion houses like Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Since Mayela relocated to New York City in 2011, she has collaborated with international brands, celebrities, designers, and magazines around the world.
Mayela’s work has been featured in multiple national magazines, including Vogue US and Mexico, Glamour US, Elle US, Nylon Mexico, Grazia Mexico, Allure, and P Magazine. She also frequently works on ad campaigns for multi-national brands such as Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, L’Oreal, H&M, Converse, Chanel and Rebecca Minkoff, as well as collaborating with directors like Joe Pytka on music video sets.
Mayela has been the key makeup artist for Ricardo Seco and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada for New York Fashion Week, Mexico City Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week shows. Mayela has also worked with celebrities including Chloe Sevigny, Nicky Hilton, Coco Rocha, Hillary Rhoda, Leandra Medine, and James Franco. She also regularly works with top media influencers, including Brooke Carrie Hill, Kelly Oxford, Samantha Wennerstrom, Giovanna Campagna, and Natalie Lim Suarez.
In addition to her makeup artistry, Mayela also has a passion for teaching and mentoring others who hope to enter the beauty industry. She leads makeup master classes in New York City, Mexico City and currently online that have attracted thousands of aspiring makeup artists and those who are looking to enhance their skills. She’s secured partnerships with brands such as MAKEUP FOREVER, Bobbi Brown Latin America & USA, Chanel Latin America and Sisley México.
